We start off with a contribution by Mary Fischer on the use of languages in the financial services sector. Nicola Malcolm tells us about her journey from Advanced Higher pupil in three languages to successful professional freelance linguist. She previously wrote for us in Issue 16, when she reflected on her last year of school, and this is also what Dean Cooper Cunningham is doing, writing about his experience of researching the use of language skills in the United Nations. Gwen McCrossan enthuses about her creative approaches to modern language teaching in the primary school. Finally, Claire van Wengen’s action research project provides evidence of how children with severe social, emotional and behavioural needs benefitted from their language learning experience.
