Lynne Jones, Professional Development Officer

A languages graduate and qualified primary teacher, Lynne joined SCILT in August 2012 after more than twelve years working in schools in Dundee and West Lothian.

In her Professional Development Officer role, she enjoys collaborating with colleagues in SCILT and beyond, to develop, facilitate and evaluate a range of professional learning opportunities for teachers, student teachers and Development Officers.

Lynne is the SCILT lead on the 1+2 Languages Leadership Programme (1+2 LLP) a flagship national professional learning programme run in partnership with Education Scotland. She also co-ordinates the beginners and post-beginners pedagogy tutor team on the Teachers Learning to Teach Languages (TELT) programme, offered in partnership with the Open University.

Highlights in the job so far include:

  • Bearing witness at Recall Days and in Reflective Reports to the commitment of 1+2 LLP participants. Recognition of the programme at the GTCS Excellence in Professional Learning Awards two years running, in 2017 and 2018.
  • Two year seconded role as an Associate Tutor with the Scottish College for Educational Leadership (SCEL) on their Teacher Leadership Programme in 2017-19.
  • Taking part in the American Council for Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Annual Conference in New Orleans in November 2018.
  • Personally awarded Professional Recognition: Supporting Teacher Learning by GTCS in February 2019.

Lynne completed a Masters in Teaching in 2015 with her final dissertation focusing on effective professional learning for languages teachers. Lynne is now partway through her EdD doctoral studies at the University of Strathclyde, she is lucky to be supervised by Professor Kate Wall and Dr Saima Salehjee.  Lynne is increasingly sharing her work and practice at conferences and knowledge exchange events in Scotland and beyond. Her research interests include teacher leadership, practitioner enquiry and pupil voice.
