Fan Lin, Depute Director, Confucius Institute for Scotland’s Schools

 

 

 

 

Fan Lin, a bilingual educator in English and Chinese languages, was an English teacher in China before moving to Scotland to follow a Master’s degree course. She has worked in education for more than 10 years in both China and Scotland. With her degree in English Education and an MSc. in Leadership and Management in Education, she has devoted herself to developing Chinese language and culture in Scotland for many years. Fan is now the Manager of the Confucius Institute for Scotland’s Schools based in Scotland’s National Centre for Languages (SCILT) at the University of Strathclyde. She works closely with government organisations both in Scotland and China to promote and develop Chinese language and culture for schools in Scotland. She also worked at the Scottish Qualifications Authority for four years, leading the development of National Qualifications for Chinese for Scotland. Fan also uses her expertise to train PGDE Mandarin students at the University of Edinburgh.

Fan has been working closely with the Scottish Government, Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters as well as schools, colleges and local authorities. Meanwhile, she has established a wide network and good relationships with various stakeholders in the UK and China, such as the Chinese Embassy, Chinese Consulate in Edinburgh, the British Council, and the China Britain Business Council. She also works closely with Chinese communities across Scotland. She was Vice Principal of the Glasgow Chinese School from September 2005 to November 2007.
